Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know the furniture I select will fit in my home?

"Fit" has two meanings:

Will the new sofa or chair fit my room? What are the dimensions or the "footprint" of the new sofa or chair? Is there still room for a table and a lamp next to it? Will it block traffic patterns through the room? Is it far enough away from fireplaces or heaters to be safe? How about access to light switches or windows that you need to open and close or bookcases?

Dining tables need to be large enough to comfortably fill the space, regardless of the number of people you wish to seat. If you have a large space but only two people eat there regularly, you still need a large table. You need to plan about 30 inches around each side of a dining table for the movement of the chairs.

Beds, except for twins, should be accessible from both sides. Before adding headboards and footboards, twin beds measure 39 inches wide by 75 inches long. Full (also called double) beds are 54" x 75 inches; Queens are 60" x 80" and Kings are 78" x 80".

And the second aspect of "Fit" is can our delivery people get your new item into your house? Are your exterior and interior doors wide enough? Does the path that your purchase has to travel through the house contain right angles, or low ceilings? Are there alternative ways of access?

And here in the mountains of Vermont we need to know that your driveway is accessible for our truck and that steps and paths have been shoveled and sanded.
